DENNIS DAVIS 1925-2003 |
THE HIDDEN TREASURES of DENNIS DAVIS Several weeks ago we received an email from a friend in which she told of a wonderful artist who had passed away in 2003 at the age of 78, and who's ex-wife and friend of many years still had the artwork. I was reluctant to call someone I did not know out of the blue, but happily, the former wife, Fieta called us, solving the problem! We took a casual ride out to a rural area of San Diego where we were met by a delightful Fieta, who proceeded to tell us the story of her wildly creative spouse, Dennis as we gazed in awe at her display of his colorful and imaginative collages. Actually, "collage" is probably not the proper word to describe these perfectly orchestrated collections of interesting objects, juxtuposed with embellishments and living in perfect harmony with one another on a brilliant background of wood, tile or fabric. WOW...that's what they are! Suffice it to say that Dennis Davis was an artistic genius and if these sold in New York or LA, you could expect to pay a small fortune for them. I recommend taking advantage of this time being the beginning of our adventure with Dennis Davis's art, as I don't believe they will remain "hidden treasures" for very long. We are starting off by offering these 6 pieces and more willl follow. They are amazing and fun and wonderful. We will be happy to send additional photo's at your request. (New not on sale) |

PIAZZA SAN MARCO 28" x 36" Fieta told us that Dennis was very European in his thinking, so reflecting on my time in Europe helped me name some of these works. It is clear to see the influences of Greece, Italy, France and Spain in his creations. Much of the beauty and dimensionality is lost in photographs, so I recommend a visit to the gallery to view these first hand. $650 |

TEMPLE OF THE LION 18 " x 28" $400 Jewels, dowels, beads and chains embellish this regal creation |
INDIA 22" x 32" $600 As mentioned, the names are mostly mine based on impressions. India was the word that came to mind when I saw this piece, although the elephants are African. It could also be interpreted as two worlds meeting, as there are Christian elements and Bhuddist elements in this work.
