About the artist......... UPDATE FEB 14, 2008......sadly Erastes Cinaedi passed away on Feb 13, 2008 at the age of 60 from cancer. He will be missed by all of those who were lucky enough to have known him. We never met Erastes but were looking forward to giving him a show this Spring. We will miss hearing his distinct voice and reading his amusing letters and representing him and his incredible artwork. Rest in Peace Brother.

Self taught and recently discovered by the House of Blues,Romany/Gypsy artist Erastes Cinaedi grew up on the streets of NYC. He has been on his own since he was eleven and has been called everything from a pop to an outsider to a gypsy folk artist.In a typical Romany fashion he has spent most of his adult life living or traveling around New York City.While he paints.sculpts and does assembalage, his main financial gain has been from his collaged and painted toilet seats.As Erastes puts it........many famous and notable ass's have sat upon my work.His "thrones" are mainly constructed from recycled items .....vintage magazines,comic books,albums and anything that inspires him.Several of his pieces are inspired by his childhood memories of growing up in a Romany neighborhood in New York.

ERASTES CINAEDI'S LOVELY TOILET SEATS

You really have to see these gorgeous toilet seats to truly appreciate the amount of time and artistic talent it took to put them together. They are covered in vintage prints and then laminated with 50 layers of varathane acrylic on top for easy maintenance. These are meant to be sat upon.................not simply admired, although you will surely recieve some very positive feedback from family and friends on the "wonderfulness" of your bano! It may very well become the "best seat in the house" with one of these lovely enhancements.

Besides being functional, they are decorated on ALL sides, for those of us who are men, or have men around the house!
